How to Get Access to Genie 4 (Release Date, Waitlist and What You Can Try Now)

on 2 hours ago

Google DeepMind announced Genie 4 on October 27, 2026. If you searched for how to use it, the short answer is that most people can't yet. Genie 4 is in a research preview for a small group of trusted testers, and Google has only said wider access is "coming soon."

This guide covers what Google has actually said about access, what each route is likely to require, and what you can do while you wait. We update it when Google publishes new details.

Can you use Genie 4 right now?

Only if you're one of Google's trusted testers. Google's announcement says it has "started rolling out Genie 4 to a limited group of trusted testers," and the official model page describes it as "available as a research preview for trusted testers."

Google says it deployed it this way on purpose, to get early feedback before a wider release. There is no public sign-up for the trusted tester program.

What Google has announced for the next stage

Two routes are on the roadmap. Neither has a date.

RouteWho it's forWhat Google has said
Project GenieConsumersComing soon, starting with Google AI Ultra subscribers
Gemini API and Google AI StudioDevelopersEarly access partners first

Project Genie (for Google AI Ultra subscribers)

Project Genie is Google's app for creating and exploring generated worlds. Google says Genie 4 is coming to it first for Google AI Ultra subscribers.

For context, when Project Genie opened earlier in 2026 with Genie 3, reports said it was limited to Ultra subscribers in the US aged 18 or older. Google hasn't said whether the same limits will apply to Genie 4, so treat that as a guide, not a rule.

Gemini API and Google AI Studio (for developers)

Google lists "early access partners of the Gemini API and Google AI Studio" as part of the rollout. So far there is no public model ID, endpoint or price. If you're planning a product on top of Genie 4, plan for a partner-only phase first.

When is the Genie 4 release date?

Google hasn't announced one. Every official source we checked uses "coming soon." Any site giving you an exact public launch date is guessing.

Things that would signal a wider release:

  • Genie 4 appearing as an option inside Project Genie
  • A Genie 4 model listed in Google AI Studio or the Gemini API docs
  • Pricing published for API access

How to join the Genie 4 waitlist

The official Genie model page at deepmind.google/models/genie has a "Join Project Genie waitlist" section with a "Join waitlist" button. That is Google's own waitlist. Use the link on that page rather than one shared on social media, so you know you're giving your details to Google.

Joining doesn't guarantee access or tell you when you'll get it.

Will Genie 4 be free?

Google hasn't said. The first consumer route is tied to Google AI Ultra, which is a paid subscription. No API pricing has been published.

What to expect when you do get access

From Google's own description, so you know what you're waiting for:

  • Short sessions. The model supports "a few minutes of continuous interaction, rather than extended sessions." Details can drift the longer a session runs.
  • Keyboard, mouse and text. You move through the world with standard controls and change it by typing, such as switching the weather or adding a character.
  • Native audio. Genie 4 generates sound, music and speech along with the world.
  • Watermarking. Google says all video and audio generated by Genie 4 includes SynthID.

For what changed from the previous model, see Genie 4 vs Genie 3.

What you can do while you wait

  1. Join the official waitlist on the DeepMind Genie page.
  2. Practice prompts. World models do best with one place, one point of view and one mood. Write a few starting scenes now and one change you'd make to each.
  3. Try the workflow. Our Genie Generator is an interactive preview of how a world-model session works: describe a scene, move with WASD and steer it with text. It's a demo, not Genie 4 itself, and it's labeled that way.
  4. Read the limits before you build plans around it. Session length and consistency are the main constraints for now.
